SmartCity Kochi is appointing master planners
SmartCity Head Quarters, based in Dubai, have invited Indian and international master planning companies to submit proposals for SmartCity Kochi’s master plan. This step comes after the laying of SmartCity Kochi’s foundation stone in November 2007.
SmartCity Executive Director, Mr Fareed Abdulrahman said “This is the beginning of the next phase. The master plan is one of the most fundamental steps towards translating our dream into reality. We have shortlisted four eminent international and national master planners and invited them to submit their proposals for the project.”
The master planner selection phase comes as good news to the State of Kerala in India and all those involved with SmartCity Kochi as it is now entering a tangible stage. During the SmartCity Kochi board meeting in December 2007, it was mentioned that the work on the master plan process for SmartCity Kochi project would start by the first quarter of 2008.
SmartCity Malta and SmartCity Kochi are the first two projects to be part of the global network of knowledge-based industry townships that SmartCity seeks to develop. This global network will foster productive linkages and tap synergies between knowledge-industry centres worldwide, thereby contributing to economic development.
