Books > “1000 Interesting Things About Slovakia”

Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic ceremonially baptised a new publication “1000 Interesting Things About Slovakia” with clumps of earth on Wednesday at the Slovak National Museum in the presence of the author Jan Lacika.

“While browsing through the book I wanted to find out whether it contains all that Slovakia’s history comprises. I was looking for a bridge in Poltar [Gasparovic's native town in Banska Bystrica region] and I found it,” said President Gasparovic, adding that he was satisfied with the contents of the book.

Lacika said that it wasn’t difficult to find the 1,000 most interesting places in Slovakia, but that is was hard to narrow down his initial selection to the final number. “I hope that no travellers in Slovakia will be without this book,” he said.

The distribution of the book in Slovakia began last week, said Ikar Publishing House’s General Director Gabriela Belopotocka. The Czech, German and English translations will be marketed as of May 2008.
